Paul Redfern papers, 1923-1978.

Consisting of correspondence and clippings re Redfern's aviation career, his final flight and disappearance, and his family's sponsorship of fourteen search expeditions, ca. 1920s-1970s, in South America, particularly Brazil and Venezuela. Includes letters of Frederick C. Redfern, father of Paul Redfern and dean of Benedict College, Columbia, S.C.; and newspaper items from around the United States re Redfern's disappearance and the recurring rumors of his survival among Amazon natives. Items documenting Redfern's Masonic membership include letters, 1923-1927, between Richland Lodge No. 39, A.F.M., Columbia, S.C., and Atlantic Lodge No. 82, F. & A.M., Brunswick, Ga., re various Masonic degrees conferred upon Redfern immediately prior to his flight; and materials, 1969, re preparations for the dedication of a plaque at Brunswick, Ga., commemorating Redfern's flight. Scrapbook, 1925-1970, with coverage of Redfern's disappearance collected from various newspapers (photocopy).
